Description
This session focuses on the role lawyers play in international corruption, and on how the long-arm jurisdiction of international and extraterritorial legislations applies to their practice. The session will open with the launch of the first IBA - OECD - UNODC Global Report on the Risks and Threats of Corruption and the Legal Profession, presenting the results of a major international survey on the awareness and perceptions of lawyers about international corruption. Then, a roundtable of experts will comment and discuss on the findings of the Report, focusing on what lawyers must do to fully comply with anti-corruption laws and standards. The session is highly recommended for all practitioners advising foreign clients in high risk transactions and sectors such as natural resources, pharmaceuticals, technology and infrastructure, as well as bar associations' representatives, corporate counsels, and lawyers advising on white collar crime, compliance and governance issues.
